Tonight is the night! Touchup -> Launch!!

Well, after a week and a half, I’m ready to consider this thing launched, and August 1st seems like a perfect time to make it happen. I have had a slow string of visitors during some of this construction phase, and I hope those people find their way back to see the finished project at some point…

With what I have left, I really only have a few minor things that I would consider major before an official launch which are as follows:

  • Login Page
    • I need to customize the login page to be themed with the rest of the site. Need to add background image & color, along with a login box that I think will be simply square looking like the post body sections just to make it simple, and keep it looking like the rest of the content on site.
  • Export layout images again with minor adjustments.
    • For the most part, this is just to fix a few shadows that are a little outta whack. Most people would never notice it, but I’m going to be that picky since this is supposed to be an expression of not only my thoughts, skills, and creativity, but also
  • Images for “Social Sharing”
    • I still need to work up a design for the button I want to use for the “Social Sharing” links that are currently text links in the lower right of each post.
    • I also need to throw in an attractive little ‘close’ button that is currently labeled ‘hide’ when a Social Sharing section is active.

I had a list in my head of other items I wanted to consider integrating in the future, but at the moment, I’ve completely lost those.

So, in a little moment of congratulations to myself, this blog is now officially live, and my next post will be the first of the ’serious’ posts related to something other than building this site…. although, it is going to concern the site, and certain browser bugs/inefficiencies that I’ve found while putting together this project that pushes the browsers limits of alpha layer transparency.

Welcome, add this blog to your favorites, digg it, whatever… and thanks for coming!!

jQuery conflicts…

After some more poking around, there are definitely some bugs after getting my jQuery implementation of the Social Sharing links, which only added 2 tiny functions and 3 lines to the JS code.

I’ll have to dig around with my FireBug to see what I can come up with, but I found that it was very unhelpful in debugging the jQuery/Ajax errors getting the bookmarking div to pull info and display properly both on single post and multiple post pages.

I’ll have to figure this one out tomorrow…. There’s really only a couple outstanding items now, including the bugs that have cropped up.

  • Fix errors with Lightbox plugin caused after install of jQuery bookmark data slider.
  • Create graphic for “Social Sharing” links
  • Create graphic for close buttun for “Social Sharing” section
  • Final site scan for major problems
  • Final CSS touchups
  • LAUNCH!!!
  • Find something worth a crap to write about…

Pre-Launch to-do List

I’ve just got a few more things to really tidy up before I’m satisifed enough with the layout and styles cross-browser before I can start really trying to promote, and get some traffic in here.

  • Footer Region
Have a nice idea for the footer, working on layout now.
  • Clean up of the ‘Link’ category content layout on the actual page.
The font sizes are being rendered much larger when outside the homepage container.
  • Add Social Bookmarks.
Haven’t found a plugin I like yet, so I might need to just do this one myself custom to my needs.

Getting closer to ‘launch’

I’m feeling much better about being able to actually launch this thing, and start putting some links out there here in the next few days… I’ve only had a few people see the site as of yet, and I’m thinking that with a few more changes to the layout, and finishing up all the minor touches, I’ll be ready to start taking some traffic to the site, and feel comfortable that the site is a presentable enough version to show the world…. be kind cruel world…

Quick flickr integration

I’m really impressed… only took a few minutes to get the flickr plugin working and figured out… I guess now I just need to figure out what all cool stuff I can do with flickr… I have my flickr account at flickr.com/photos/himerus/

And a thanks to duanestorey.com for the great flickr plugin that worked so easily outta the box…

I’m going to work now on the slideshow plugin… I think this could work great for a quick slideshow of projects.

Wordpress kudos…

I’ve been working more and more lately looking for the be all, end all applications to make my life as a developer easier. I’ve spent year after year, on personal work, contract work, and full time work, and it seemed each time I was being forced to reinvent the wheel, and it’s only come to my attention lately the value of now these major applications that are very well developed.

I have found that applications like Wordpress are much more robust and in a much more perfected form than the out of the box CMS utilities of just a few years ago.
