I had the great pleasure to attend yet another Drupal event this weekend in Montreal. DrupalCamp Montreal in my opinion (and I highly doubt I'm alone on this) Was a HUGE success. I've been so amazed in the past 6 months of actually attending camps, meetups, and the great fortune of presenting on the 960gs/Ninesixty theme at Drupalcon Paris. Every time I am able to go to one of these events, I get more and more drawn into the community aspect of Drupal, and gain a much better understanding of why Drupal is amazing, why the community is what makes it such a powerful option, and the only open source community that I've seen that is so passionate about what we do.
I've used Drupal for going on 4 years now, but simply never had much of good response from the community, similar to webchick (Angie Byron) and her first experience with the community. Another factor in my lagging behind in the community was that I worked freelance for several years. I was able to do 99% of the sites I was contracted for with no interaction. I used Drupal for over a year until I even needed CCK/Views, and to start understanding how critical they were in a good Drupal site.
But all that aside, I'm now so hooked on the Drupal community that I cant imagine not attending each and every event possible, and trying to present at each and every one of those events to give back anything I can to the community. I will be attending and hopefully presenting again at DrupalCamp NYC on 960gs and my Omega theme, along with a potential theming panel as well. The Omega theme recieved some great feedback from the crowd at the session, or maybe that was just the photos of the Hoff!!
All those details aside, I just can't be more happy to be a part of the Drupal community, and continue to move forward and contribute more. Between a hectic work schedule here at CommonPlaces, plus some of my personal code like Omega, I've still never had time to start reviewing patches, and contributing in that way, but no matter what, I plan on changing that in the near future.
Upcoming Posts:
I've got a lot of writing to do over the next week or two for this blog, which includes at the very minimum the following posts:
- Wrapup on the Omega theme Session
- Praise for DrupalCamp Montreal organizers & sponsors for such a great event!
- Crazy awesome praise for the team from dbn.ca for their amazing job on video!
