Well after a tiring weekend at Design 4 Drupal - Boston ( #d4d ), I'm back at home, gathering my thoughts on everything I've seen, and all the great Drupal people I got to meet this weekend.
For me, this was my first Drupal event, even after using Drupal for over 3 years now. I was in the Denver area, and never quite had the motivation to drive down out of the mountains for the Denver/Boulder user group, and even though I planned on going to Drupalcon DC, an unfortunate set of events kept me from making it.
The Design 4 Drupal - Boston was my first chance being out here on the east coast now to participate in any of the geat Drupal events that are put on by the community. A special thanks to Susan MacPhee for putting in the time and effort to set up this camp.
The fact that I'm a long time PHP guy, turned Drupal fanatic, and designer/themer leaves me in an awkward spot sometimes when reading over tutorials, or in this case attending sessions. The camp, and a lot of the sessions seemed to be geared more to designers/themers that were new to Drupal, and really passing on some basic knowledge of how Drupal thinks of theming, and how certain things are possible. I did find myself bored in some sessions, but the information was truly great for those new to Drupal, and I really wish I had been able to attend those types of sessions when I was very early in the Drupal game.
A thanks to those I got to meet this weekend, if I leave you out of the following list, I'm truly sorry, the whole thing was quite overwhelming, and if you didn't stick out in my mind, or match your twitter picture, then I might not remember!! @mortendk @jjeff @thescaryclown @lauras @pingkate @Zarabadoo @ultimateboy @lisarex @timeril @nathansmith @rootwork @jacine and many many more!
I really had a great time, and the session from @nathansmith and @toddross for 960gs was great, and I think that was obvious by the fact it got moved to the larger lecture hall! It seems like 960gs is truly set to take over the grid system, and become very well adopted by the Drupal community. The other session I really enjoyed, and got a nice response was from @sethcohn and Diallo from CommonPlaces as well.
After the 960gs presentation, I was planning on heading home, but decided to stay for the User Interface & Experience session by @lisarex Even at the late point in the day, there was still quite a showing for that, and that hung around for @mortendk and his closing remarks.
I'm quite glad I was able to attend, and caught some great sessions and met more of the Drupal community. I hope to see more groups like this related to the theming side of Drupal. Even though I fit into both sides of the coin as a developer that can code just about anything, and also a themer/designer I really can see the need for focus on this aspect of the community, and extending the Drupal platform out to more of those great designers out there that are scared to make the leap.
Hope to see you all again in Paris!!

My thoughts exactly
It was great to meet you, Jake! Thanks for the shout-out!

That last comment was from @timeril!
Good to meet you too!

I will probably not be up to making this next meetup (this thursday I think I saw), but I will plan on making the next!

Thanks for the great write up!
We were glad you could attend the camp and experience a large Drupal event for the first time. We plan hold more and while some of the sessions were newbiesh, I liked reading that you thought we could have done more advanced stuff.
We will have another camp hopefully around pre-holiday time and I'd love for you to get involved and help us form advanced themer sessions. Cheers and thanks for the shout out!

Next D4D - Boston Camp
Next time around, I will be happy to volunteer to help out in any way I can, and try to come up with something for a great session. And even though Boston is only 45 min away, I will get a motel in town so that I dont have to worry about the drive back after hanging out with crazy Drupal Drinkers!
Thanks again for your work putting this together, and a thanks to all the volunteers as well!
